Help your baby be in the best position for birth...
Help your baby be in the best position for birth….. Doing these things will encourage the best position for birth for your baby, but they will feel good to do them. Pelvic rocks: gently move your pelvis forward and back either standing or on the ground on all fours. Sit upright with your back supported and your belly forward ( great position for breastfeeding as long as you have pillows under baby bringing baby to breast – never breast to baby) Keep your legs apart or criss-cross apple sauce – this creates space by opening your pelvis. Sit on a birth ball, read a book on your birth ball, talk on the phone on your birth ball, bounce a little bit on your birth ball (you get the idea)… Yoga if you know how or have qualified support from someone skilled with working with pregnant women and their changing bodies. Lie on your side with pillows for support – lying on your left is great for your blood pressure and to encourage optimal positioning for your precious one. Tuck a folded towel under your tush in the car or use a pillow made for this to tilt your pelvis forward. Get in hands and knees position – play with children or small animals, or pretend to (you will soon enough if you don’t already) Keep your back straight – pretend you have a book on your head you need to keep steady… Swim in forward positions – this will take the weight off your body and give baby a chance to float – when you get out, if you can get on your hands and knees for a few moments so if baby has moved into a better position, s/he can settle into it – then squat for a few seconds if you can. Keep your knees lower than your hips Sit with the soles of your feet together, do anything that keeps your hips open and moving…. Talk to your baby, ask your precious one to be in the optimum position for birth, and look at pictures and visualize your baby in the anterior position. |
